Lineal does not currently use Apple Business (previously known as Apple Business Manager/ABM) so users currently use standard Apple Accounts. These accounts must be created with the user's @lineal.co.uk email address, otherwise this causes data security and user experience issues.
Credentials for all cloud services, including Apple Accounts (previously known as Apple IDs), must be stored in the user's Keeper vault, and not stored on paper, in digital documents etc. as per Lineal's Password Policy.
- Go to https://account.apple.com/ and choose "Create Your Apple Account" (or Sign In → Create Apple Account).
- Enter the user's details:
- Email: use their @lineal.co.uk address
- Name/DoB: as appropriate
- Password: generate a unique passphrase in Keeper
- Verify the email address: Apple sends a verification code to the user's mailbox, enter it to confirm ownership
- Trusted phone number: Apple requires a phone number for verification.
- Use a Lineal number wherever possible, if using a mobile number then ensure that this is changed to the end user upon them receiving access to their new account.
- Save everything to Keeper immediately:
- Apple Account email address
- Password/passphrase
- Trusted phone number used
- Any recovery details
- Do not enable any iCloud features: in particular, iCloud Drive Desktop & Documents sync must remain disabled as OneDrive KFM (Known Folder Move) is to be used. Also, iCloud Keychain must be disabled as all passwords/passphrases/credentials must be stored in Keeper only.
- Verify that you can sign into https://account.apple.com/ using the new credentials.
- Ensure that the user's macOS device & macOS App Store are both signed in using these credentials.
